Not much content here – just a note to say that I’m back from my summer vacation and will resume my semi-regular quasi-updates to this blog shortly. I apologize for any panic or disturbance my lack of posting may have caused you.
If you like word puzzles (and who among us doesn’t, really?), you’ll love the Word Games forum over on Podcacher.com.
Yes, I know the past few posts have been a bit heavy on the plugging of Podcacher.com, but if you listened to the show and realized how aweome Sonny and Sandy are, you’d completely understand.
FYI – Puzzlehead.org along with the PS101 series and the Lamp Skirt Micros 101 Final Exam were mentioned on the May 17, 2009, episode of Podcacher’s podcast (starting at about 12:40 into the podcast). Whoo-hoo! Thanks, Sonny and Sandy!
Podcacher is a great service, one to which all puzzleheads and geocachers should subscribe.
I just upgraded the site to WordPress 2.8, which was released yesterday. WordPress describes the 2.8 release as a “fit and finish” release, meaning they fixed a bunch of bugs and cleaned up some annoyances in the user interface.
You shouldn’t notice anything different on the site other than it should generate pages somewhat faster. The Dashboard looks a bit different here and there, but it also looks mostly the same. (Most of the changes are visible only to administrators.)
If you notice anything that’s behaving too oddly (other than the site administrator), please let me know.
See my user name at the top of this page? If you click on it, it will take you to the link I defined in my personal profile on this site.
That same functionality works for any post or comment from any author on this site. You can set your link to be your public profile on Facebook, Linked In, Twitter, Geocaching, or any other place where you want folks to get your public expression of who you are.
To set your link, go to the Dashboard and click on Users, then My Profile. Go to the Contact Info section, enter your link in the Website field, and click Update Profile (at the bottom of the page).
I went by the PS101 Final Exam today and copied down all of the brain teasers that the finders have left in the log book. I then loaded them into the Brain Teaser widget. Thanks to all of the finders who contributed!
At JunglePete’s request, I’ve added two new links to the Navigation menu in the left sidebar. These links appear only for registered users of the site.
The Subscribe link allows you to receive email notification when new information is posted here. You can subscribe to the entire site or just to specific categories of information.
The Invite Others allows you to send invitations to join the site to other people you think might be interested in its content.
If you’re not yet registered with this site, registration is free. Click the Log In link in the Navigation menu on the left.
I’ve added a new plugin to this site to make it possible to post spoilers, like this:
What is the next number in this series?
1, 11, 21, 1211, 111221, 312211, … ?
13112221

Start with 1. The string “1″ has one “1″ in it, so the next number is “11″Â (one one). Now repeat the process with the new string: “11″ has two ones in it, so the next number is “21″ (two ones). The new string has one two and one one, so the next number is “1211″. And so forth.
Here’s a short description of how to use the spoiler tags.
